Burnley FC goes straight back up

Burnley FC secured early promotion to the Premier League.

Team manager Vincent Kompany’s team won 2-1 (1-0) at Middlesbrough FC on Good Friday and benefited from Luton Town’s 0-0 draw at Millwall FC. After 39 of 46 games in the second English football league, Burnley can no longer be knocked out of one of the top two places.

Ashley Barnes (12th) and Connor Roberts (66th) scored for Burnley and ensured direct resurgence. Kompany, a former Hamburger SV professional and very successful at Manchester City, took over the team at the start of the season.

Burnley’s dominance of the Championship has been overwhelming, 11 points more than closest pursuers Sheffield United and unbeaten in 19 games. In 39 games there were 25 wins – and only two losses.
