Everton FC could have signed Erling Haaland at a bargain price

Everton missed the chance to sign young Erling Haaland for a very small price a few years ago. Duncan Ferguson, once active as a player and coach for the Toffees, revealed this in the podcast No Tippy Tappy Football by William Hill and Footy Accumulators.

“What a phenomenal player Erling Haaland is. He’s going to be incredible, right? And believe it or not, but he was at Everton,” said Ferguson, assistant manager at the Liverpool club until July 2022, adding: ” His father brought him to Everton and they never signed him.”

Haaland was 15 or 16 years old at the time and was still active for his Norwegian hometown club Bryne. “They only wanted a few million pounds for him and yet Everton didn’t buy him. Everton didn’t think it was the right move at the time,” Ferguson continued.

Haaland finally switched from Bryne to RB Salzburg at the beginning of 2019 as an 18-year-old for eight million euros. For the Austrians, he recommended himself for Borussia Dortmund, who signed the striker in early 2020. As is well known, Haaland has been playing for Manchester City since last summer, where he has already scored an incredible 22 goals in 16 competitive games.
