Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl charged by the English Football Association

Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl was charged by the English Football Association (FA) for immoral behavior after the game against Chelsea (1: 3) in early October.

Hasenhüttl had “questioned the integrity of the video referee, implied bias or discredited the game,” explained the FA.

What happened? Southampton’s midfielder James Ward-Prowse was late in the duel with the score of 1-1 in the 77th minute against Chelsea star Jorginho and caught the Italian with an open sole on the Achilles tendon.

Referee Martin Atkinson drew a yellow card, but video referee Mike Dean advised the chief official to re-examine the incident on the sidelines. The result: Red card for Ward-Prowse and last-minute knockout for Southampton by Chelsea’s Timo Werner (84th) and Ben Chillwell (89th).

After the game, Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl said in an interview that he was not satisfied with Atkinson’s decision and that Dean’s intervention had already anticipated the unfavorable outcome for Southampton. “I knew when Mike Dean reported via radio that the referee would watch it,” said Hasenhüttl.

In an interview with BBC radio added the Austrian: “We don’t have a good story with Mike Dean. I always have a bad feeling when we know that Mike Dean is a video referee.” After the indictment by the FA, Hasenhüttl now has until next Tuesday to comment on the association’s allegation.
