Manchester United Players 'Shocked' With Jose Mourinho's Treatment of Injured Luke Shaw

Manchester United players were shocked after Jose Mourinho singled out left-back Luke Shaw for criticism despite the 21-year-old sustaining a groin injury in the defeat against Watford, according to a report in The Times.

Luke Shaw is expected to undergo scans on a groin injury this week after he reportedly ‘played through the pain barrier’ at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

The Hornets ran away 3-1 winners in a game which marked the first time Jose Mourinho has lost three games in a row since managing Porto in 2002.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, as quoted by the Independent, Mourinho said:“I knew I had a task. But the first Man City goal [during the 2-1 defeat last weekend] and this second goal, you can find incredible similarity.

“[Aleksandar] Kolarov has the ball in a difficult situation in the corner and my player instead of going up and pressing decides to give him space. Today for the second goal, [Nordin] Amrabat on the right side, our left back is 25 metres distance from him, instead of five metres.

“But even at 25 metres, then you have to jump and go press. But no, we wait. This is a tactical but also a mental attitude. In a couple of weeks, everything like this becomes perfect. That’s my job.”

Luke Shaw came off as a substitute in the second-half, just two minutes after making a mistake for Watford’s second goal.

After coming off the pitch the left-back was seen having a heated exchange with Mourinho, who has since been called into question for his criticism of Luke Shaw, who was clearly nursing an injury.

The Times claims that a number of United players were ‘shocked’ at Mourinho’s treatment of the 21-year-old, who has suffered with long-term injuries in the past.
