Liverpool look set to offer Daniel Sturridge in a huge £40m swap deal for Southampton pair Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen, according to reports.
Sturridge, 27, has seen himself fall down the pecking order under Jürgen Klopp this season, after failing to impress since his return from injury.
The England striker has been linked with a move away from Anfield in January, with West Ham and Stoke City reportedly keeping close watch.
But the Express are claiming that Southampton are also in the race, with Claude Puel’s side planning to take Sturridge in on loan before a £25m permanent deal at the end of the season.
Puel wants a regular striking partner for Shane Long and has made Sturridge his number one priority this January.
However, there are still lingering concerns over the England striker’s fitness, which is why the Saints want to take him on loan before committing to a long-term deal.
The Daily Star claim that Liverpool are in hot pursuit of Saints duo Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly ready to spend £40m on bringing the pair to Anfield.
With both parties interested in each other’s players, a swap and money deal could well be on the cards, but Sturridge will need to ensure he stays fit before January to ensure any type of deal goes ahead.
Sturridge has made eight Premier League appearances so far this season without scoring a single goal, marking his worst start to the season since 2010.
