1. FC Köln loses memory game in honor of Maurice Banach

Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln suffered a defeat in the memory game in honor of striker Maurice “Mucki” Banach, who died in a car accident in 1991.

FC, who suffered four defeats in the last five games in the league and scored just one goal, remained without a goal on Thursday. Cologne ran after the goal by Frank Boya (34th) in vain.

Before the game, former companions of Banach had their say. “Mucki was a really cool guy, he won hearts from the start. That Sunday morning in November 1991 changed all of our lives to some extent,” said Olaf Janßen, current coach of Viktoria Köln.

Banach had a fatal accident on November 17, 1991 on the way to training at Geißbockheim on the A1 near Remscheid. The striker, who also played for the German U21 national team, was only 24 years old.

Eintracht Frankfurt misses victory against Fürth

Eintracht Frankfurt missed a win in the friendly against second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Without their national players, the Hessian Bundesliga team couldn’t get past a 1-1 (0-0) draw. Attacker Lucas Alario (50th) scored the lead for SGE, Ragnar Ache (54th), who is on loan to Fürth from Eintracht, scored to equalize.

Junior Dina Ebimbe celebrated his comeback for the Hessians after a long injury break. The 22-year-old came on as a substitute around 15 minutes before the end.
