Maria KeaneFor former FCB professional Mario Basler, Thomas Müller’s heyday at Bayern Munich is over.
“I think Thomas Müller will be on the bench next year,” said the former player of the German record champions in his podcast “Basler ballert”. Accordingly, coach Thomas Tuchel would have better options in the long run in the 33-year-old’s position.
Nevertheless, according to Basler, FC Bayern would be well advised to keep Müller in the team. “Otherwise he can be the death caller at the club,” he said.
Müller continues to have “a lot of power” in the club: “You have to try a few things with him, because Thomas Müller is the one who can turn off the water for a coach. If you ignore him, he’ll quickly go to Tegernsee.”
An allusion to a possible complaint from Müller to Honorary President Uli Hoeneß if he is dissatisfied with his situation. Hoeneß lives in Tegernsee and continues to enjoy a high status in the club.
In addition, Basler can imagine the Bayern veteran in a different role: as an assistant coach. “You just have to communicate with him properly before he goes to Tegernsee,” he said.
Müller had not been in the starting XI in previous games. Instead, Tuchel replaced him late.
