Alejandro Grimaldo before moving from Benfica to Bayer Leverkusen

Maria KeaneAccording to consistent media reports, Bayer Leverkusen is about to sign Spanish left-back Álejandro Grimaldo from Benfica.
Loud table football the 27-year-old has already completed his medical check-up at the Werkself and Fabrizio Romano reports that everyone involved agrees that the transfer will go ahead. Grimaldo is said to get a contract that runs until 2027.
Grimaldo’s contract with Benfica expires, he can move free of charge in the summer. The Portuguese league leaders wanted to extend the contract, but the negotiations are said to have failed due to Grimaldo’s high demands.
The former junior international of Spain has also been under discussion as a new signing at Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Real Sociedad in recent months.
Grimaldo comes from the youth department of FC Barcelona and was considered a great talent there at times. However, the two-time U19 European champion did not make it into the professional squad, and at the beginning of 2016 he switched to Benfica for 2.1 million euros. Since then he has won numerous titles in Lisbon, including the championship three times.
This season he completed 52 competitive games for Benfica. The attacking full-back scored 7 goals and provided 15 assists for coach Roger Schmidt’s team.
