Due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18), German professional football will be taking a two-month winter break next season.
The new season in the top German division will start on August 5, 2022. The season in the 2nd Bundesliga begins three weeks earlier (July 15). The season finale in the Bundesliga will take place on May 27, 2023. The last day of the second division season will also take place a day later.
The last matchday of 2022 in the first division (matchday 15) and the second Bundesliga (matchday 17) will be played from November 11th to 13th. The world governing body FIFA has set the release period for national players for November 14, 2022. Following the World Cup and a break, the ball will start rolling again in the Bundesliga on January 20, 2023, with the 2nd Bundesliga starting a week later.
The first round of the DFB club cup will be played from July 29th to August 1st, the final will take place on June 3rd, 2023 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
In addition, the Supercup will be played between the German champions Bayern Munich and the DFB Cup winners (RB Leipzig or SC Freiburg) on July 30, 2022. The two games of the first DFB Cup round involving the Supercup participants will therefore be rescheduled on August 30th and 31st.
