Baumgart extension at 1. FC Köln only a matter of form

Steffen Baumgart (51) will probably remain coach of 1. FC Köln beyond June 30, 2024.

“My contract runs for another year and a half. During the negotiations, I had a very clear conversation with Christian Keller (Managing Director of 1. FC Köln, ed.). We said: do what I have in the contract until 2024 we will continue like this for another year if the club wants,” said the FC coach in the current sports studio ZDF.

Most recently, both sides had repeatedly emphasized that they were very interested in continuing the cooperation. The Cologne football coach is now considered an icon among the supporters of the Rhinelanders and enjoys great popularity. Baumgart himself is satisfied with the “agreements that have been made”.

On Friday, Cologne lost 2-0 to relegation candidate VfL Bochum: “We don’t yet have a 100 percent solution ready as to why things aren’t going the way we imagine. When I see the game against Bochum or the games before that: There was always more in it than we achieved.”
