Bavaria's ex-assistant coach Hermann Gerland tells anecdote about Louis van Gaal

Bayern Munich’s long-time assistant coach Hermann Gerland spoke about working with Louis van Gaal in an interview. To this day, he is proud of praise from the Dutch coach.

From 2009 to 2011 the “Tiger” was assistant coach under van Gaal at Bayern. Gerland left Bayern that summer and is now assistant coach of the German U21s under Antonio Di Salvo.

As with Bayern, Gerland will keep an eye on the youngsters. He also filled this role on Säbener Strasse, whether as an assistant coach, head of the youth department or sporting director of the second team.

He was able to impress Van Gaal with his findings, Gerland revealed Sport1. “Louis van Gaal once said to me: ‘Hermann, you said three sentences to me about every player at our first meeting. Then after six months I checked the things you said. And I have to say: It’s unimaginable. You have an unimaginable eye. The club has to use them a lot more. ‘”

He was “a little proud” of this praise from Van Gaal, who is currently in charge of the Dutch national team, said Gerland. With van Gaal he won the German championship and the DFB Cup at Bayern 2010, but they lost the Champions League final to Inter Milan.
