Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso appears to be very popular with Real Madrid

Bayer Leverkusen may have to prepare for a lucrative offer for their coach Xabi Alonso. Champions League winners Real Madrid are closely monitoring the development of their ex-professional and are apparently not averse to signing the 41-year-old if Carlo Ancelotti leaves.

According to the sports picture Alonso is even the “ideal solution” of the powerful club president Florentino Perez. Alonso’s contract in Leverkusen runs until 2024.

Ancelotti (63) is being courted by the Brazilian federation for the post of national coach. A decision should be made by the end of May.

Alonso has stabilized Bayer since taking office in October 2022 and led them from the relegation zone to sixth place in the Bundesliga. The Werkself are in the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they meet AS Roma (May 11/May 18).
