Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard was whistled at by supporters of the sports club in the game against SC Freiburg. Every time the 27-year-old made contact with the ball, a shriek of whistles erupted in the Europa-Park stadium.
The reason for this is the behavior of the Frenchman in the DFB Cup quarter-finals a few days earlier. There, Pavard deliberately worked on the penalty spot with his studs in added time after a handball by Jamal Musiala when the score was 1-1 to increase the chance of Freiburg missing a shot.
Referee Harm Osmers then immediately drew a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct, and the Freiburg players also showed their displeasure and energetically pulled Pavard away from the penalty spot.
However, the defender’s action had no effect on the result. Lucas Höler converted the penalty that was due and shot his club into the semi-finals of the DFB Cup.
