Borussia Dortmund signed Salih Özcan from 1. FC Köln

Borussia Dortmund is pushing ahead with the big upheaval in the squad. The runner-up has signed the Turkish national player Salih Özcan (24) from 1. FC Köln for the coming season.

The defensive midfielder is the fourth BVB addition after central defenders Niklas Süle (Bayern Munich) and Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg) and striker Karim Adeyemi (RB Salzburg).

Özcan, who, according to the club’s announcement on Monday, “could choose between several national and international offers”, will receive a contract until June 30, 2026. “He is one of the climbers in the past Bundesliga season and was instrumental in FC’s successful season. He’s an extremely good tackle player and strong in the air. His mentality and physique will do our team good,” said future sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Özcan became European champion in 2020 with the German U21 selection, but then decided to play for Turkey’s senior national team. “Borussia Dortmund’s energy, which you can feel, plus the opportunity to play regularly in the Champions League, ultimately led to my decision,” he said. “I am very ambitious and willing to invest everything for it.”
