Maria KeaneCup winners Borussia Dortmund will have to do without the injured central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou for a long time. “I expect to need another two or three months,” said Zagadou on Monday at the training camp in Bad Ragaz / Switzerland.
The 22-year-old had to undergo knee surgery in March. “Unfortunately I have experience with injuries. I will take the time I need to get fit again,” said the Frenchman, whose contract with BVB expires at the end of the season: “The focus is on my recovery and not the contract.”
Zagadou completed a first run in Bad Ragaz. Central defense is currently one of the biggest construction sites for new coach Marco Rose. The EM drivers Mats Hummels, Manuel Akanji and Emre Can will only join the team later this week.
Hummels recently also had problems with the patellar tendon. Various media had recently reported about BVB’s interest in the Turkish international Merih Demiral from the Italian record champions Juventus Turin.
