Borussia Mönchengladbach: Effenberg criticizes President Königs

Ex-national player Stefan Effenberg (53) has harshly criticized President Rolf Königs (80) of Borussia Mönchengladbach. “Actually, a man like that has no place in such a management position if he treats people like that,” said Effenberg sports1-One pass.

Königs had caused a negative sensation at the press conference on Friday with clumsy and empathetic statements in the direction of the resigned sports director Max Eberl (“We did everything to keep him, to turn him around”).

Eintracht Frankfurt’s board spokesman Axel Hellmann (50) still sees chances that Eberl will return to the Bundesliga stage. “I think he’ll fill up the tank again and then he’ll come back. With endless commitment in Gladbach he wrote one of the greatest success stories of the last ten years. It gets on your bones,” he said in a one-two.

However, details of the separation have not yet been discussed. “We haven’t even talked about contracts yet,” said Borussia Vice President Rainer Bonhof in a double pass.

Bonhof continues: “We first have to respect Max Eberl’s situation and not the contractual things. Everything else is still pending.” The 48-year-old Eberl’s contract with the five-time German champions runs until 2026.

Bonhof, world champion from 1974, said about the possible successor to Eberl: “There is strength in calm. We had initial talks with Steffen Korell (Gladbach’s chief scout, ed.). He said that the first row is not his world .”

However, Borussia will take its time: “We will work out something calmly and discuss internally who will replace Max Eberl. We will not break it over our knees.”

Bonhof denies Zakaria’s move to Juve

Bonhof also commented on the ongoing rumors about a transfer from Denis Zakaria to Juventus Turin. “In principle, we have nothing in our hands,” said Gladbach’s vice-president.

He spoke of a wish but no concrete offers for the Swiss, who will definitely leave the club at the end of the season. An amount of seven million euros is rumored as a transfer fee plus bonus payments. The winter transfer window in Germany ends on Monday evening.
