Borussia Mönchengladbach - Matthias Ginter on working with Hütter: "It just didn't fit"

Matthias Ginter spoke openly about the difficult relationship with his ex-coach Adi Hütter. “It just didn’t work out, but that’s not bad at all. I didn’t know that, it was a new experience for me with a coach. But that happens sometimes, it’s the same in other areas from time to time and is part of life,” said Ginter in an interview with the specialist magazine kicker (Monday edition).

The 2014 world champion returns to his youth club SC Freiburg for the new season from Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the past season on the Lower Rhine, the 28-year-old had played an unsatisfactory season under Hütter, from whom the club separated after the season. The same applied to Borussia, which was only tenth in the table.

Ginter met the fact that the fans whistled for Gladbach when he came on as a substitute in the last game. “The whistles after the substitution were all the more bitter, of course I would have wished for a different ending,” admitted the defensive player and, looking at the entire season, stated: “Unfortunately, I’ve now also got to know the unpleasant sides of professional business.”

At SC, where Ginter completed his youth and took his first steps in professional business from 2012 to 2014, the central defender would like to end his career. “That was always a bit of my goal, that hasn’t changed either,” Ginter replied when asked: “You should never say never in football, but I hope it works so well for both sides that I don’t have to change more.”
