Maria KeaneFelix Brych has been named Germany’s Referee of the Year for the fifth time in his career. As the DFB announced on Saturday, the award for the man from Munich, who had ended his international career after the EM this summer, took place during the summer training camp of the elite referees in Grassau am Chiemsee. In the women’s category, Riem Hussein (Bad Harzburg) was chosen for the fourth time.
“With Dr. Riem Hussein and Dr. Felix Brych, the award deservedly goes to two referees who have represented German refereeing very well also internationally in the past year,” said DFB Vice President Ronny Zimmermann, who is responsible for referees.
Brych had set a tournament record with five appearances at the pan-European championship and thus crowned his international career. The 45-year-old had already been named the best German referee in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Hussein, who led the women’s Champions League final between Chelsea and FC Barcelona (0: 4) in May, received the national award in 2013, 2016 and last year.
