Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund continues to rely on its reserve goalkeeper Alex Meyer. According to a club announcement on Friday, the 32-year-old extended his contract with the vice-champion prematurely until 2025. Number one in Dortmund is Swiss national goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
“Alex is much more than a second goalkeeper. Whenever he was needed, he showed his skills at an extraordinarily high level. He is an absolute team player, a great footballer and a very reliable professional with life experience, who brings calm and security,” said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl. Last season, Meyer stepped in for Kobel seven times in the league.
