As the BVB announced, Kobel waived the decisive games with Switzerland in the World Cup qualification due to a hip injury. “The goal is to play in the upcoming Bundesliga home game against Stuttgart,” said a Twitter statement from Dortmund.
Coach Marco Rose’s team is currently struggling with major personnel concerns. Among other things, Dortmund currently have to do without top scorer Erling Haaland, as well as Giovanni Reyna, Mahmoud Dahoud, Raphael Guerreiro, Emre Can and Marius Wolf.
In addition to Kobel, Breel Embolo and Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach also canceled their trip to the Swiss national team.
In Group C, Switzerland can still secure first place and thus buy the direct ticket to the finals in Qatar (November 21 to December 18, 2022). Before the last two match days, the Swiss are tied for runners-up in the group behind European champions Italy, who will be the next opponent in Rome on November 12th. Three days later, Switzerland received third-placed Bulgaria in Lucerne.
