BVB, News: Watzke reveals details about Haaland transfer
BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke gave interesting insights into the negotiations for the transfer of Erling Haaland. Accordingly, the Norwegian, who moved to Dortmund in winter 2019/20, could have earned significantly more at another club.
Haaland decided to take the sporty perspective. “Our offer wasn’t the best. The offer from Manchester United was better. But agent Mino Raiola has recognized that Erling is in better hands with us,” Watzke explained OMR podcast.
Due to the development of talents such as Robert Lewandowski, Mario Götze, Jadon Sancho or Ousmane Dembele, BVB has “almost achieved a unique selling point”, explained Watzke: “People notice that gifted people make a breakthrough with us the quickest. That’s for the players, the parents of the players and the advisors are a resounding argument. “
Watzke continues: “The fact that we discovered the players on our own is long gone. But we can get them. We have no qualms about letting 17-year-olds play.”
Haaland moved from RB Salzburg to BVB for 20 million euros. After 70 goals in 69 competitive games, the 21-year-old is one of the most competitive players in world football.
Nevertheless, BVB does not want to exorbitantly increase Haaland’s salary in order to convince him to stay. “You also need hygiene in the dressing room. That means: To believe that you will go all-in for Haaland and that all other players will stay as they are – then you will be wrong when it comes to the character of the players,” explained Watzke.

BVB rumor: Frankfurt probably wants to borrow talent
Eintracht Frankfurt has apparently reached out to Dortmund in search of an offensive player. As the Sports picture reported, asked sports director Markus Krösche at BVB about Ansgar Knauff.
Accordingly, it is about a loan deal for the coming winter. However, the report does not reveal how the licensed player manager and future sports director Sebastian Kehl responded to the offer.
The 19-year-old attracted attention last season under coach Edin Terzic with two goals in four Bundesliga short appearances. Under Marco Rose, the left winger hardly plays a role at the moment.
BVB: Juwel cancels Borussia Dortmund
Oscar Vilhelmsson from the Swedish first division club IFK Göteborg has given Borussia Dortmund a rejection. After the 18-year-old performed well, BVB put out feelers to him.
“I felt that it was a little too early for me to take this step,” said Vilhelmsson in an interview with the podcast BBpodd. However, he does not disclose the time of the offer.
The Swedish U19 international has been an integral part of Gothenburg’s professional squad this season. Most recently, he had started four times in a row.
The center forward, who plays in the same team with former Bundesliga professionals Marcus Berg and Oscar Wendt, still has a contract until 2023.
