Sebastian Kehl becomes really clear for the first time in the championship fight. BVB defends defender Soumaila Coulibaly against racist comments. Also: Torsten Frings criticizes Youssoufa Moukoko. All news and rumors about Borussia Dortmund can be found here.
BVB, News: Kehl wants championship title
Despite the recent setback in Stuttgart, BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl has a clear motto for the end of the season in the Bundesliga. “We want to be German champions,” said Kehl in an interview with the Ruhr news.
“It’s only two points behind Bayern Munich. We still have six games ahead of us, four of them at Signal Iduna Park. We’re the strongest team in the league at home and we’re always able to start a series,” Kehl explained: ” We’re closer than we’ve been in years at this point in the season, I’m confident we have the quality needed.”
BVB missed that at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. With a majority, Dortmund gambled away a 2-0 lead and gave up the 3-2 scored late in injury time. “We were missing a lot as a team in Stuttgart after the break. We expect everyone to subordinate everything to our joint success and our goals,” said Kehl, who wants to tick off the bitter 3-3 draw.
The criticism was “absolutely deserved, even if it hurts. Nevertheless, there is no point in constantly looking in the rear-view mirror,” said Kehl. The team has “shown several times this season that they can deal with such setbacks and even come out of it stronger.”
BVB welcomes Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. “We now need a very good week of training, a bit of anger, absolute greed, the unconditional will to defend our goal together and of course the support of our fans. Anything is possible with this package,” said Kehl.
BVB, News: Dortmund comments on the racism incident at Coulibaly
BVB has defended its youngster Soumaila Coulibaly against isolated racist comments online and has given the 19-year-old moral support.
“Borussia Dortmund offered him support in this matter,” spokesman Sascha Fligge told the Ruhr news. “We condemn all forms of discrimination and racism.”
In the 3:3 draw against VfB Stuttgart, Coulibaly was instrumental in the late Stuttgart equalizer with an unsuccessful clarification action. The defender then received several messages, some of which were racially motivated, on social media.
Coach Edin Terzic also stood in front of his protégé. “Of course we would have liked him to clear the ball with his right foot. But it would be absolutely wrong to make him a scapegoat now.”
BVB, News: Haller catches up with Ajax farewell
Nine months after leaving Ajax Amsterdam, Sébastien Haller has made up for his departure from the Eredivisie club. Ahead of the Netherlands’ home game against FC Emmen, which ended 3-1, the club bid farewell to last season’s top scorer on the pitch with a photo collage and statuette of Greek hero Ajax, after whom the traditional club is named.
“Thank you for this moment. It was a pleasure to be here, it was a pleasure to play here for 18 months. We have great memories, I think everyone remembers what happened,” he said Striker in a farewell statement to fans.
Haller switched to BVB from Amsterdam in the summer of 2022. Only a few weeks after his arrival, an aggressive tumor was found in his testicles, which is why he had to undergo chemotherapy and take a break for six months. Because of the cancer diagnosis, the later personal farewell has also been postponed until now.
BVB, News: Torsten Frings shoots against Moukoko
Ex-BVB player Torsten Frings reprimanded Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko after his derogatory gesture in the game against VfB Stuttgart. The striker allowed himself to be carried away to a provocative jubilation after the goal to make it 3:2 for the black and yellow.
“Thank God there is a football god and he punished it,” said Frings in the ran Bundesliga web show. “Of course Moukoko is a young player, but pride comes before a fall. Thank God that was the case in this case.”
Moukoko has not yet commented on the campaign. Shortly after the final whistle, numerous users on social media mocked Moukoko’s jubilation, who had to cope with a real shitstorm.
