BVB: Season for Reyna probably over

Borussia Dortmund will no longer be able to rely on Giovanni Reyna’s services for the rest of the season. As the club announced on Sunday, the 19-year-old will not be used in the remaining five games.

The American was injured again after just a few seconds of BVB’s 2-0 win at VfB Stuttgart. “Gio Reyna, who had to be substituted at the start of the game, suffered a muscle and tendon injury. The season is over for the American,” the club said.

Reyna had a “slight involvement of the tendon” (trainer Marco Rose) in a previous injury. Reyna was injured at the end of 2021 (muscle injury) and until the beginning of March (thigh injury). In this season he completed only 13 competitive games.

According to US broadcasters CBS, who first reported on the diagnosis, now wants to give Reyna the necessary time so that he can prepare for the new season. Especially since he wants to compete with the USA at the World Cup in Qatar in winter.
