Borussia Dortmund has terminated the contract with ex-national player Nico Schulz by mutual agreement. This was announced by the runner-up without giving any details.
had previously Picture and Ruhr news reported a severance payment of around 2.5 million euros, a little less than half of Schulz’ rumored annual salary. His contract ran until 2024.
“We are all aware that things have not developed as hoped for Borussia Dortmund and Nico Schulz in recent years. Nevertheless, we wish Nico all the best for his sporting and personal future,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
The twelve-time national player came to BVB from Hoffenheim in 2019 for around 25 million euros and only played 40 Bundesliga games in four years – the last in May 2022. Under coach Edin Terzic, the former Hertha and Gladbach player no longer played a role.
In the past few weeks, Schulz has been free to look for a new club. However, this was unsuccessful.
