BVB: Watzke is looking forward to a sold-out stadium again

Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke gets very emotional when he thinks of Borussia Dortmund’s stadium being sold out again after 763 days on Saturday against RB Leipzig (6.30 p.m.).

“It touches you,” said the 62-year-old sky: “I’m really looking forward to 81,365 spectators. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical that we’d be able to sell out the stadium right away. But my staff said we could do it, and we did it.”

BVB suffered great economic damage as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting lack of viewer income.

“We lost a total of 120 million euros. That’s unbelievable. It’s a relief for us now, but it’s a snapshot,” said Watzke, hoping that restrictions will be a thing of the past: “Politicians have to understand that we have to continue on this path. It but it will take a few more years to catch up on what we lost. Now we have to look ahead and enjoy the moment.”
