FC Bayern won the round of 16 first leg in the Champions League 1-0 at Paris Saint-Germain. Here are the international press reviews.
The main focus of the media is the ailing Kylian Mbappé. And of course Kingsley Coman, who scored the winning goal.
France
Le Parisien: “Despite the return of Kylian Mbappé, PSG was slow to wake up and conceded a defeat in the round of 16 first leg against FC Bayern Munich on Tuesday. The capital club have seriously jeopardized their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals. In Munich it is three weeks accomplish a feat.”
L’Equipe: “Paris wake up too late in the first leg. This puts the capitals in a difficult position ahead of the second leg in Munich on March 8. They need to be inspired by winning the 2021 Champions League quarter-finals.”
Le Figaro: “There is PSG with and PSG without Kylian Mbappé. It was already known, and it was confirmed on Tuesday evening when the Parisians lost to a small Bayern (0-1) in the Champions League round of 16. Let’s remember that PSG should be able to do without his 24-year-old star.”
Eurosport.fr: “Paris wakes up far too late. Kingsley Coman was the henchman of his former club Paris. The Parisians were dominated for a long time and only proved dangerous with the return of Kylian Mbappé in the 57th minute.”
Le Monde: “Despite being defeated by Bayern, PSG still have hopes of progressing in the second leg in three weeks. With the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, Paris became a different side after having been dominated in the first half.”
Liberation: “If it’s not supposed to be, it’s not supposed to be: Paris had to suffer against Bayern because Kylian Mbappé was missing. Christophe Galtier’s team was invisible in the Prinzenpark. But the final phase of the game gives hope for the second leg.”
England
Sky Sports: “Kingsley Coman has returned to haunt Paris Saint-Germain again.”
Sun: “Messi and Co. before Champions League knockout – VAR takes back Mbappé’s goal”
Mirror: “No Kylian, no party. Tristes PSG is punished by Bayern. Neymar and Messi are stumbling.”
Spain
Marca: “Again Champions League alarm in Paris.”
AS: “Just like in the 2020 final, ex-PSG youth player Coman stabs his former team. Mbappé, initially on the bench, boosted the Parisian game.”
Italy
Gazzetta dello Sport: “Donnarumma blunders, Coman punishes PSG. A strong FC Bayern have their sights set on the quarter-finals.”
tuttosport: “Coman punishes PSG, the round of 16 first leg goes to Bayern.”
