Now it’s official! Timo Werner returns to RB Leipzig after two years at Chelsea. The Saxons announced this on Wednesday evening.
Both sides did not provide any information about the transfer fee for the national player, but according to information from Sky this should amount to 19.5 million euros. However, this can increase to up to 30 million euros through various bonuses.
Werner flew by private jet from London to Leipzig late Monday evening, where he underwent a media check on Tuesday. He then signed his new contract with RB, which runs until 2026.
Timo Werner: Four goals on the way to the Champions League victory
Werner switched to Chelsea in 2020 for a fee of 53 million euros, but was never really happy there. While he was still seeded under Frank Lampard at the beginning, under his successor Thomas Tuchel he moved more and more into the second rank.
Werner did, after all, score four Champions League goals in his first season with the Blues when they won the competition.
Werner originally switched from VfB Stuttgart to RB Leipzig in 2016, where he developed into a star and national player.
