Contrary to media reports, coach Stefan Leitl will not necessarily leave Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the summer. “As of now” he will train the designated relegated team in the coming season, said Leitl Nuremberg Newspaper/News.
So far, there have been no talks with allegedly interested clubs such as Hertha BSC or Schalke 04, emphasized Leitl, contradicting a report by the image-Newspaper. According to the newspaper, the 44-year-old’s departure is certain.
He was in talks with managing director Rachid Azzouzi “about the new season, about the future and of course about my future,” said Leitl: “That’s why there is nothing to communicate from our side.”
Like every other athlete, he has “ambitions to get the best out of himself personally”. But the question is “what is best”. It is also an option to shape a club for a long time like Christian Streich did at SC Freiburg: “That’s why I can give myself a little more time to think about it.”
Azzouzi also rejected the rumor that Leitl’s departure was certain: “That’s not the case at all.” Instead, he hopes to stay. “We have always stood by the coach this season,” emphasized Azzouzi, “I think he can put it into perspective. Stefan knows what he has in our club.”
