Cologne sells more Baumgart hats than Modeste jerseys

Steffen Baumgart’s iconic trainer’s hat is apparently a bestseller at 1. FC Köln.

As managing director Alexander Wehrle der sports picture revealed, more Baumgart caps are now being sold in the fan shop than jerseys by players like Anthony Modeste.

“I’ve never seen an item that’s in such demand outside of the shirts, and especially the limited edition carnival shirts,” Wehrle said.

A picture of international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer recently trended on social media after swapping his jersey for Baumgart’s cap following the 4-0 win over Cologne.

“The cap is already legendary, everyone would like to have it,” Neuer enthused at the time.

1. FC Köln: 7,000 Baumgart caps pre-ordered

Around 500 hats per season have been sold in the Cologne fan shop in recent years. After trainer Baumgart made this, together with the billy goat and his year of birth 72, his new trademark on the outside, it went through the roof. So far, 6,500 caps have already been sold – an additional 7,000 pre-ordered caps are currently being produced.

But it’s not just because of his hat that Baumgart and his team from Cologne are currently the focus of many Bundesliga fans. After 20 match days, FC are in eighth place, just two points behind the Europa League places. Within six months, Baumgart turned a relegation candidate into a solid Bundesliga team.
