Comment on the FC Bayern squad: Behind your own claims

Maria KeaneResults in preparation for the season? For free. The clear bankruptcy against SSC Napoli can, however, be understood as the final proof that the current FC Bayern squad does not live up to its own claims. A comment.
Four test games, no win. Including a pounding 0: 3 in their own arena against an opponent who was by no means less wildly thrown together because they only started preparing a few days ago – acknowledged with occasional whistles and malicious “German-master-will-never-der-FCB” chants the south curve.
So far, so insignificant. Test matches should not be overestimated, the bill for Julian Nagelsmann and the “new” FC Bayern will only start on August 6, when the first competitive game of the season in the DFB Cup against the fifth division club Bremer SV is due.
FC Bayern Munich: The second suit doesn’t fit
Even so, there is cause for concern. Because if something becomes clear these days, it is that the Munich squad is nowhere near as “excellent” as the executive suite around Oliver Kahn classifies it. Nagelsmann can fall back on an excellent team with three to four excellent backups. The squad positions 16 to 25 – and this was especially clear in the second half against Naples – does not have the quality to reliably perform at a top level.
There are some promising young players like Torben Rhein or Armindo Sieb, who with a little more training experience with the professionals can be trusted to start under talent promoter Nagelsmann. But there are also actors like Michael Cuisance, Joshua Zirkzee or Bouna Sarr, from whom we simply cannot expect more than what has been shown so far.
Nagelsmann still needs one or two new players
In this respect, in view of the goals set, it would be negligent and risky not to strengthen the squad with one or two players until the end of August – especially on the problematic positions on the right-hand side and central midfield. And not with players from the rest ramp, but with players who help immediately and compete with the regular staff. Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho players who were sorely missed in the post-triple season under Hansi Flick.
Because one thing is also clear: of the many excellent players from the first team, not a few are prone to injury. With Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies, there are two regulars at the Munich hospital even before the start of the season. And after the experiences from the past season (s), one cannot plan for an entire season with players like Tanguy Nianzou, Niklas Süle, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman, who was replaced early against Naples with a bruised rib.
With regard to a particularly exhausting year for the national players, FC Bayern have to improve if they don’t do their new coach a disservice and want to keep up with the international competition. The examples Perisic and Coutinho have shown that this does not always require huge sums of money.
