Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke has commented on the rumors about a transfer from Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) to BVB.
Speaking at a press conference, he said: “I love this player, it’s certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano Ronaldo play at Signal Iduna Park.”
At the same time, however, Watzke restricted that there was “no contact at all between those involved, so you should stop talking about it.” On Thursday, the US broadcaster CBS Sports reports that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes actively offered the star striker in Dortmund. CR7 is pushing for a transfer to BVB, it was also said at the picture.
The 37-year-old Portuguese is known to want to leave United despite his contract until 2023 and according to information from SPOX and GOAL, the Red Devils would now be quite willing to let Ronaldo go. Clubs such as PSG, Chelsea or FC Bayern that are considered potential transfer targets are reportedly not interested or have already waved them off.
BVB: Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United
Ronaldo really wants to start in the Champions League. While that’s not possible with United this season, Borussia is taking part again in the premier class as runners-up in the Bundesliga.
There have been rumors all summer about a possible departure of CR7 from Manchester, the fatal start to the season including the 4-0 defeat in Brentford and the angry departure of Ronaldo fueled the speculation.
The five-time world footballer returned to United from Juventus Turin in the summer of 2021, where he had already played from 2003 to 2009. Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 39 competitive appearances last season.
