Curious incident in the game between TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund: Ball boy intervenes in the game

Curious incident in the game between TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund: A ball boy intervened in the game just a few minutes after kick-off – and caused brief confusion.

What happened? In the second minute of the game, an unfortunate cross from TSG Hoffenheim rolled towards the baseline. Everything pointed to a kick for BVB, but keeper Gregor Kobel was not granted this.

Because a ball boy from the hosts ran onto the field and passed the ball back towards the Dortmund penalty area before it was out of bounds. By intervening in the ongoing gameplay, referee Martin Petersen was forced to interrupt the hustle and bustle.

A brief discussion ensued before the referee consequently decided on a referee ball. Hoffenheim’s midfielder Christoph Baumgartner then played the ball fairly wide.
