David Raum flirts with a change from Hoffenheim to Dortmund

After missing out on qualifying for the European Cup with TSG Hoffenheim, national player David Raum is flirting with a move to Borussia Dortmund.

“Of course you worry. I’m also honest, I would of course have liked to play internationally with Hoffenheim. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. It’s still a dream for me,” said the left-back when he was in the national team’s training camp for a BVB interest was raised.

However, Raum also emphasized that the new coach Andre Breitenreiter, who succeeds the dismissed Sebastian Hoeneß, “supports the attacking football that I play,” said the 24-year-old.

Alexander Rosen, director of professional football at TSG, recently at least did not rule out a transfer. “David’s development is breathtaking and of course it doesn’t go unnoticed by other clubs,” he said. “But of course I’m aware that we’ll be confronted with this issue again and again in this category of players in the future.”

David Raum: From second division professional to national player

Raum only moved to Kraichgau last summer from Greuther Fürth, who was promoted at the time, and with 13 assists he became one of the top assists in the Bundesliga. These achievements did not go unnoticed by national coach Hansi Flick, who nominated Raum for the first time in the fall. Raum’s contract runs until 2026 and his market value is estimated at 17 million euros.

At BVB, the Nuremberg native could fix one of the weaknesses in the squad. Nico Schulz, who also came to Dortmund from Hoffenheim in 2019, was never able to meet expectations and has long been considered a candidate for sale. The Portuguese Raphael Guerreiro, who usually plays as a left-back, has enormous qualities in the offensive game, but has weaknesses in defence.
