Thomas Meunier has decided to say goodbye to BVB. This is reported by the Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo. The Belgian defender has already informed those responsible at Borussia Dortmund. FC Barcelona, who are basically interested in Meunier, also know about it.
Meunier is still under contract with the Bundesliga leaders until 2024, but is considered a candidate for a change in the summer. In recent weeks he has been traded as a newcomer to Barça and English clubs.
Barcelona are looking for a new right-back following the departure of Hector Bellerín in the winter. Meunier should be relatively cheap compared to other candidates. However, the club bosses have doubts about the age of the 31-year-old.
Meunier played for Standard Liège and Royal Excelsior Virton in his youth before joining Club Brugge in 2011 for €200,000. In 2016, 62 international players switched to PSG for six million euros. The free transfer to Borussia followed in 2020.
Due to various injuries (cheekbone fracture, muscle fiber tear, back problems), Meunier only made 18 appearances for BVB this season. He scored a hit. Most recently he was not in the squad of head coach Edin Terzic three times.
