A spectator died in the Bundesliga game between Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen (0:3).
In the final phase of the game, emergency doctors first tried to revive the man in the south stand. After the end of the game, the club announced that any help came too late for the spectators. “Condolences to the family. It’s difficult for me to say anything about the game now,” said coach Thomas Reis, “there are more important things than a defeat.”
Bayer coach Xabi Alonso also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. Because of the medical emergency, the fans of both clubs had stopped cheering in the last few minutes, and there was largely silence in the arena.
