BVB, News: Watzke warns after a dream start

With four wins from the first four games in 2023, Borussia Dortmund is back in the fight for the championship title. Nevertheless, managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke warns against premature euphoria.

“You have to remain analytical and not be guided by emotions,” said Watzke in an interview with the Ruhr news. “If we want to achieve our goals, we will need staying power. With all the quality that we have in our squad – despite the great series, there will certainly be setbacks again at the moment,” warned the 63-year-old.

However, a positive development could definitely be seen in the past few weeks and months, Watzke continued. “For me, it’s important that the people involved can correctly assess and evaluate the situation. And the development of a team also includes setbacks.”

Watzke cited the recent achievements of Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt as prime examples. “You could already see that something is changing there in the training camp in Marbella in January. How courageously he puts in a defensive effort – you will be rewarded in the end,” praised BVB boss Adeyemi. Brandt, on the other hand, would have earned “the success and the consistently high level” through hard work and good performances.

With 37 points from 19 games, BVB is currently in third place in the Bundesliga. Only three points ahead of the black and yellow leaders Bayern Munich.

BVB, News: Thorgan Hazard celebrates dream debut

BVB loan Thorgan Hazard has made a dream debut at his new club PSV Eindhoven. The Belgian made his first appearance for his new club against Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Hazard came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute and just five minutes later scored to make PSV 2-0. With a man down, Eindhoven was unable to save the lead over time. A last-minute goal from Alireza Jahanbakhsh earned Rotterdam a 2-2 draw.

Hazard is on loan from Borussia Dortmund to PSV Eindhoven until next summer. He still has a contract with BVB until 2024.
