Rouven Schröder, former sports director of Schalke 04, is apparently about to sign at RB Leipzig in the same function. After MDR-Info it is an “open secret” that Schröder is the preferred candidate of the new managing director Sport Max Eberl. A commitment is only “a matter of time”.
Due to the departure of technical director Christopher Vivell to Chelsea and commercial director of sport Florian Scholz to the management level of Red Bull, there is a lack of sporting competence. As Eberl recently clarified, the company is “quite lean” in this area.
Schröder, who is still under contract with S04 until 2024 and would therefore cost a transfer fee in the millions, could fill this gap. After guiding Schalke back into the Bundesliga, he surprisingly resigned last October.
There were already rumors of Leipzig interest back then, the ex-professional had previously worked at Greuther Fürth (coordinator of licensed players and sports director), Werder Bremen (sports director) and Mainz 05 (sports director and sports director).
There have been numerous speculations in the past about Schröder, who is said to be on friendly terms with Eberl. So he was traded as a successor after Eberl in Gladbach. In addition, after the separation of Leipzig and Ralf Rangnick in 2020, he was associated with a job with the Red Bulls, which was ultimately taken over by Markus Krösche (now at Eintracht Frankfurt).
