RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

Borussia Dortmund clinched an important away win on matchday 12 of the Bundesliga. BVB was very happy to win 2-1 (1-1) at Eintracht Frankfurt.

  • BVB took the lead through Julian Brandt (21st), which Daichi Kamada equalized for SGE five minutes later with his seventh goal of the season. Jude Bellingham put Dortmund back in front after the break (52′).
  • Dortmund have won against no club in the Bundesliga more often than against Frankfurt (48 times) and have not scored as many goals against any other team (190).
  • Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani prepared his 7th goal in his 11th Bundesliga game. Only one player has prepared 7 BL goals faster since detailed data collection: Bremen’s Diego in his first 9 appearances.
  • Frankfurt have scored in each of the last 13 Bundesliga home games against BVB (20 goals). Against no other current BL team does the SGE currently have such a long goal streak in front of their home crowd. The black and yellow wait so long for a clean sheet from any other team in the BL.

Eintracht Frankfurt – BVB: The analysis

Entertaining, intense and sometimes wild first 45 minutes with even ball possession and 14 shots on goal – nine of them by Eintracht. After the 0:1, they gradually took control of the game and, above all, had physical advantages over BVB, who then let themselves be pushed back too far, became more passive and were lucky not to fall behind.

The game had numerous transition situations in which the SBU was better able to distribute the ball (Kamada) and hold it (Kolo Muani) after winning the ball. There was a lot of space in the back of the Dortmund temporary left-back Hazard, which Frankfurt knew how to use well in his attacks. Borussia, on the other hand, found it difficult to build up the game against Frankfurt’s 5-2-3, as they hardly ever managed to combine in majority situations against the three pressing attackers.

Frankfurt was also the more active and game-determining team after the change of sides, but conceded the 1:2 with Dortmund’s only reasonable attack for a long time. As was the case after the first deficit, only the SGE was still in control, which also benefited from individual mistakes by BVB’s defense and had numerous good opportunities. However, keeper Kobel kept his team in the game with several strong saves.

The guests made three changes after an hour, but this did not relieve the situation. The Hessians were superior to BVB in all respects – just not in terms of effectiveness in front of the goal.

Eintracht Frankfurt – BVB: The line-ups

Frankfurt: Trapp – Tuta, Jakic, N’Dicka – Dina-Ebimbe, Kamada (Borré 84), Rode (Sow 72), Pellegrini – Lindstrom (Alario 78), Götze – Muani.

Dortmund: Kobel – Süle, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Hazard – Özcan, Bellingham – Adeyemi (69th Wolf), Brandt (61st Can), Malen (60th Reyna) – Moukoko (61st Modeste).

Eintracht Frankfurt – BVB: The data for the game

Gates: 0-1 Brandt (21st), 1-1 Kamada (26th), 1-2 Bellingham (52nd)

The star of the game: Gregor Kobel (BVB)

Caught cold at 1-1, Kamada’s shot probably didn’t see it until late. In addition, he was unemployed for a long time – and then made brilliant saves against Lindstrom (54th, 58th) and Kolo Muani (57th).

The flop of the match: Karim Adeyemi (BVB)

Eager at first, looking for duels offensively and defensively. But got bogged down and barely made a trick, seemed increasingly frustrated. Was very lucky not to concede a penalty against Lindström. Had to go down after 69 minutes.

The referee: Sascha Stegemann

Not a good match from the referee who made several questionable decisions. Pellegrini was lucky Dortmund scored to make it 1-0 shortly after, having already caught Adeyemi in the face with a yellow card. Adeyemi was even luckier three minutes before the break, pushing Lindström very clearly with both hands in the Dortmund penalty area. That should have resulted in a penalty – nebulous, which is why the VAR did not intervene.
