Defending champion FC Bayern Munich started the new Bundesliga season with a gala performance. The team coached by Julian Nagelsmann won the Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 (5-0).
- Thanks to goals from Joshua Kimmich with a cunning direct free kick (5th), Benjamin Pavard (10th), Sadio Mane (29th), Jamal Musiala (35th) and Serge Gnabry (43rd) FC Bayern was already 5th at half-time :0. In the 64th, Randal Kolo Muani shortened the lead to 1:5 after Neuer carelessly frittered away the ball. Musiala scored the final point in the 83rd to make it 6-1.
- There were a few incidents in the stands: Before the game, a number of fans whistled the German national anthem, and at half-time there were skirmishes in front of the Frankfurt block. In addition, pyrotechnics were fired several times. Here is the news.
Eintracht Frankfurt – Bayern Munich: The analysis
Nagelsmann relied on the same starting eleven as in the Supercup victory against Leipzig and did everything right. Right from the start, his team was extremely dominant, enthusiastic and goal-oriented. As if in a frenzy, FC Bayern took a deserved 5-0 lead by half-time and even had chances to score more goals. The goal shot ratio was 17:3.
Due to the rather unusual 4-2-2-2 system, the center was naturally always well manned. The four offensive players Müller, Gnabry, Mane and the outstanding Musiala castled constantly and took turns occupying the flanks cleverly. The Munich assault was favored by Frankfurt’s orientation. The hosts didn’t put themselves in the back, but acted courageously themselves and thus offered FC Bayern space behind the defensive line.
When in possession of the ball, Frankfurt tried to use the supposed weakness of FC Bayern’s center-heavy system on the wings, especially in the early stages. However, the Munich defenders defended in a concentrated manner and stopped most of the attacks with ease, while Frankfurt only came close to the goal a few times. Götze took Bayern completely out of the game with consistent attacks.
Frankfurt coach Glasner made three changes at half-time. Because FC Bayern were now a little more reserved, the hosts immediately gained more access and scored the consolation goal. There was hardly anything left of the Bayern spectacle of the first half for long stretches of the second half. Only in the final phase did the guests turn up the heat again.
Eintracht Frankfurt – FC Bayern Munich: data of the match
- Gates: 0: 1 Kimmich (5th), 0: 2 Pavard (10th), 0: 3 Mane (29th), 0: 4 Musiala (35th), 0: 5 Gnabry (43rd), 1: 5 Muani ( 64.), 1: 6 Musiala (83.)
The star of the game: Jamal Musiala (FC Bayern Munich)
The young star was the linchpin of FC Bayern’s game and put together a brace. Especially in the first half he shone with strong dribbles and passes. He also caused danger with long-range shots.
The flop of the match: Sebastian Rode (Eintracht Frankfurt)
The Frankfurt captain never got the Munich attack through the center under control and was substituted at half-time. Rode won just under 40 percent of his duels.
The referee: Deniz Aytekin
Aytekin had the game well under control. He rightly denied Frankfurt’s alleged 1:5 by Jakic because of an offside position (56th).
