Emre Can speaks publicly about his tumor disease for the first time

Former national player Emre Can (29) spoke publicly about his tumor operation for the first time. The disease was discovered during the medical check when he moved to Juventus Turin in 2018.

“I had a tumor in the thyroid gland and needed an urgent operation. That changed a lot in my life,” said the Borussia Dortmund professional DAZN.

The disease was “never life-threatening,” he was doing well, “thank God, I have no after-effects,” said Can. Nevertheless, one notices, “You can have so much money, you can have everything, but health is the most important thing. And I’m also grateful to the Juventus club that they found that out.” The move from Liverpool to Turin was worth it for that alone.

Since the surgery four years ago, during which the tumor near the vocal cords was removed, Can says he has had to take pills every morning. “It belongs to me now,” said the midfielder, noting that something in his life had changed. “I didn’t want a blood test or someone to check my thyroid before, I’ve always been bored with stuff like that, but that’s part of life,” he said.
