Maria KeaneThe family of ex-Bundesliga player Nelson Valdez apparently narrowly escaped being kidnapped in Paraguay.
According to Paraguayan media reports, five men apparently planned an attack on Valdez’s family in Caaguazu, in southern Paraguay. National forces took the gangsters into custody after they attempted to take over a nearby police station and then drive to the family home.
During the search of the men, short and long guns, balaclavas and radios were found. A video of the arrest has been circulating online ever since. Accordingly, the criminals had the plan to extort $ 100,000 ransom.
During his playing career, Valdez spent a total of ten years in the Bundesliga. There he completed 203 games for Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt, in which he scored 38 goals and hung up 23 more goals.
After returning to his home country in 2017, he played for Cerro Porteno for three more years before retiring in the summer of 2021.
