Thomas Tuchel takes over the coaching position at FC Bayern from Julian Nagelsmann.

FC Bayern Munich has separated from coach Julian Nagelsmann and hired Thomas Tuchel as his successor. For this reason, SPOX takes a look at the new man on the sidelines of the record champions. Family, wife, child, clubs, successes, assets – here is the most important information about Tuchel.

Everyone is talking about Thomas Tuchel at the moment. The German takes over the recently vacant coaching position at Bayern Munich. Julian Nagelsmann, who moved from RB Leipzig to the Isar in July 2021 for a record transfer fee of 25 million euros, previously held this position.

After the record champions had to hand over the lead to Borussia Dortmund after losing 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen on the last day of the Bundesliga match, the decision has now been made to contest the last part of the season with another coach.

Family, wife, child, clubs, successes, assets – the most important questions about the new Bayern coach, Thomas Tuchel, are answered below.

Thomas Tuchel: family, wife, child

Thomas Tuchel was born on August 29, 1973 in Krumbach, the second largest town in the Bavarian-Swabian district of Günzburg, where he grew up with his mother Gabriele and father Rudolf.

Many years later, the now 49-year-old started a family himself. He married his wife Sissi in 2009, from whom he only divorced last year. They have two daughters together: Emma and Kim.

Thomas Tuchel: clubs, successes, assets

While Thomas Tuchel now earns his money as a coach, he – like so many others – first entered the football world as a player. He didn’t even come close to his level as a coach, but at least he was on the pitch for at least a few minutes in the 2nd Bundesliga. As a youth player, he spent most of his time in his hometown of Krumbach before moving to FC Augsburg’s U17s in 1988.

Before he could play for the adult team of FCA, he switched to Stuttgarter Kickers in 1992. He stayed there for two years before moving to SSV Ulm 1846 in 1994, where he finally ended his career in 1998 – at the age of just 25.

Thomas Tuchel: Clubs as coaches

Tuchel did not let much time pass after that and in 2000 he set about starting his new career as a coach. He did this at VfB Stuttgart. First he was active in the youth field, in 2004 he became assistant coach of the U19, but didn’t stay long. The journey continued at FC Augsburg, the club for which he played as a youth player. There he held positions as U19 coach, youth coordinator and reserve coach.

The 1.90 meter giant only celebrated his breakthrough at FSV Mainz 05. After a short period as U19 coach, he was appointed manager of the newly promoted Bundesliga team in 2009. In the almost five years that he was at FSV, he always held the class and even finished the 2010/11 season in fifth place.

As a farewell gift, Tuchel left Mainz in seventh place in his last season, which meant qualifying for the Europa League. Then a new chapter began for him with Borussia Dortmund. A chapter that should be rather short. He didn’t stay with the black and yellow for two seasons, winning the DFB Cup after all – his first title as a coach.

After a hiatus, he continued his career at top French club Paris Saint-Germain. With superstars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappé in his squad, he won the French league twice and the cup once. In 2020, Tuchel narrowly failed to achieve the series champion’s long-awaited goal of finally lifting the Champions League trophy due to a defeat in the final against FC Bayern Munich. Not long after, his time in the capital ended.

However, while PSG continues to chase the pot, Tuchel was finally able to fulfill this dream with Chelsea. The Krumbacher took over the Blues in the middle of the 2020/21 season and got the maximum out of it straight away. Chelsea beat Manchester City in the final thanks to Kai Havertz’s winning goal. For the successful time at Chelsea, Tuchel was crowned world club coach of the year after the season.

The collaboration in London only ended in the current season. After a 1-0 defeat by Dinamo Zagreb in the group stage of the premier club, the club pulled the ripcord.
