Fans criticize World Cup ambassadors for statements about homosexuals

FC Bayern Munich fans have once again taken a critical stance on the World Cup in Qatar. In the 6-1 victory of the record champions against SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, they showed a banner that refers to homophobic statements by World Cup ambassador Khalid Salman.

“Damaged minds! Fuck you Kahlid & Co.”, said the Bayern fans’ banner. Salman referred to home sexuality in an interview for the ZDF-Documentation “Geheimsache Qatar” as “mental damage”. Above all, he has problems when children see homosexuals, said the 60-year-old. They would learn something that is not good. In his eyes, homosexuality should therefore be banned.

The fans of the record champions positioned themselves for the second time within a very short time on Qatar. Already at the weekend they showed banners in Berlin in which they had criticized the allocation to the emirate. “15,000 dead for 5,760 minutes of football! Shame on you!” read one. Hertha BSC fans and many other organized fan groups in Germany had also expressed criticism.

The supporters of VfB Stuttgart positioned themselves just as clearly on the edge of the parallel game against Hertha. “Whip for Wehrle, jail for Hitz? The World Cup in Qatar is a joke!” read a banner. The current CEO of VfB, Alexander Wehrle, and his predecessor Thomas Hitzlsperger have both come out as homosexual.
