Early Sunday morning there was apparently an organized attack by at least 100 violent hooligans on fans of Bundesliga club Schalke 04.
According to the police, at least four people, including a bus driver, were seriously injured in the argument at the meeting place for Schalke fans in Gelsenkirchen before leaving for the away game in Berlin. Rescue workers treated the injured on the spot, they had to be taken to a hospital for inpatient treatment.
Several hundred members of the organized Schalke fan scene wanted to take buses to the Royal Blues’ away game in Berlin at 1. FC Union. At 6:22 a.m., the violent people attacked, who, according to the police, are probably associated with the Rot-Weiss Essen and Borussia Dortmund fan scene.
A mass brawl ensued, using baseball bats and other striking tools, among other things. By the time police arrived, the attackers had already fled. The police are investigating trespassing and dangerous bodily harm.
S04 reacted in a statement: “Schalke 04 condemns, as stated in the mission statement, any form of violence and wishes the injured a full recovery.” According to the traditional club, the buses with the fans left for Berlin despite the attack. The supporters wanted to support their team despite the events at the Köpenickers.
