"Far too much to do!" Thomas Müller declares that he will not travel to Asia

Thomas Müller will miss FC Bayern’s Asia trip (July 24 to August 3) due to injury. Now the 33-year-old has spoken out.

“Unfortunately, I can’t go on the Asia trip, there’s just far too much to do to be pain-free and catch up on the training backlog,” said Müller in a video message: “I’ll be working hard on it over the next two weeks and then hopefully return as soon as possible. I’m confident that this is the right strategy now.”

Like last year, the offensive player is struggling with hip problems and recently had to abandon the training camp at Tegernsee. Instead of making the trip to Japan and Singapore, where Bayern will play friendlies against Manchester City, Kawasaki Frontale and Liverpool FC, the 2014 World Champion will be treated and trained individually in Munich.

“Together with the doctors, we decided that it would be better from a sporting point of view if Thomas stayed at home,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen on Friday: “Of course, Thomas would have done us good from a commercial point of view alone because of his position, his identification with the club and also because of his standing in Asia. But, and that is what distinguishes FC Bayern, of course we also have commerce, which is important, but the focus is on the sporting part.”

Müller, whose contract in Munich runs until 2024, played in 40 competitive games last season. He scored eight goals and prepared twelve more goals.
