FC Augsburg – Greuther Fürth 2: 1: Greuther Fürth says goodbye to the upper house without an away win

RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

SpVgg Greuther Fürth said goodbye to the Bundesliga without an away win. The cloverleaf also lost on the last matchday at FC Augsburg with 1:2 (1:1). FCA coach Markus Weinzierl then announced his departure.

The 47-year-old will not extend his expiring contract with the Swabians. “That was my last game. I won’t have any more talks with FCA. A lot has happened, I want to draw a line for myself,” said Weinzierl sky.

Weinzierl indicated a broken relationship with manager Stefan Reuter. So far there have been no talks, “there is no basis,” said Weinzierl.

FCA, who had last week secured themselves the league for the eleventh year in a row, took the lead in a chaotic game through Daniel Caligiuri (11th). He converted a penalty kick. Jessic Ngankam (24th) equalized. Michael Gregoritsch (84th) made it 2-1. The relegated team remained without a win twelve times.

Fürth had to do without coach Stefan Leitl because of a corona infection. Assistant coach Andre Mijatovic was responsible for him for the first time.

Augsburg – Greuther Fürth: Broken collarbone in Dorsch

From the couch, Leitl, who is moving to second division side Hannover 96 in the summer, saw a superior FCA. He also took the lead early on after Tobias Raschl brought down Andre Hahn in the penalty area.

Augsburg seemed to have everything under control in front of 27,907 spectators, but after Niklas Dorsch lost the ball, Ngankam used the Franconians’ first chance to score his second Bundesliga goal.

After that, the game rippled along. However, there was bad news for FCA: Dorsch had to be carried off the pitch after a good half hour with a broken collarbone.

The game had to be interrupted shortly after the break after FCA fans set off smoke bombs. As the haze cleared, viewers continued to see little to look at. FCA were lucky when Hahn cleared the line (65′). Gregoritsch then scored his ninth goal of the season almost out of nowhere.

FC Augsburg – SpVgg Greuther Fürth: The voices

Markus Weinzierl (FC Augsburg coach): “We got into the game well. After the equalizer and Niklas Dorsch’s injury, we lost the thread a bit. I’m very happy that we won. I told my players after the game that I wouldn’t be renewing my contract . I assessed the situation for myself. There is no basis for a future. I walk upright and proud.”

Andre Mijatovic (assistant coach SpVgg Greuther Fürth): “We didn’t get into the game like that. FCA were more dominant and aggressive. We were better after half-time, you didn’t see that much of FCA anymore. But that was symptomatic of the whole season: we were on an equal footing, but they decisive scenes went to the opponent.”
