FC Barcelona’s Sergiño Dest a possible option when looking for minutes

Sergiño Dest has little chance of playing minutes at FC Barcelona. A change option for the defender should be Borussia Dortmund.

Sergiño Dest was not used in FC Barcelona’s 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the start of the season, and he didn’t even make it into the Catalans’ squad. A first indication that Barca coach Xavi is not relying on the 21-year-old American this season and that he should look for a new club.

As a possible option for the right-back, the AS including Borussia Dortmund. Speculations about Westphalia’s interest in Dest are not new: at the beginning of this year, rumors circulated about a swap between Dest (to BVB) and Thomas Meunier (to FC Barcelona).

Other possible destinations for Dest, who was once also a candidate at Bayern Munich, are said to be Manchester United, Betis Sevilla and FC Valencia.

Dest joined Barça from Ajax in 2020 for €21m. He is still under contract there until 2025.

The USA international will definitely need minutes to be in top form at the World Cup in Qatar in November and December and earn a regular spot in Gregg Berhalter’s side.
