Defender Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus Turin criticized the young Dutchman after Matthijs de Ligt’s move to Bayern Munich and demanded more respect for the old lady.
“He should show more respect to the team that has helped him develop in the last three years and to the club that invested a lot of money in him at the time,” said the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport. “I wish him the best, but some things he said recently with the national team weren’t very nice.”
At the time, when asked about a possible contract extension at Juventus, De Ligt said that from a personal point of view he was always entitled to the “best sporting project”. “Fourth place two years in a row is not good enough, we have to improve. Juventus is a club that always wants and needs to be champions,” said the 22-year-old at the time.
Words that didn’t necessarily go over well with the old lady. “We talked about it after the summer break,” Bonucci explained. “He understood me. With Bayern he’s now at a great club, but you don’t automatically win in teams like that either.”
Bayern transfers a fixed sum of 67 million euros to Turin for de Ligt. The Munich residents have to pay this sum in four annual installments. In addition, there are possible bonus payments of up to ten million euros.
