Lutz Michael Fröhlich has partly blamed the referee team around Christian Dingert after FC Bayern made a mistake. At the same time, the referee chief of the DFB announced a reappraisal.
“It would have been good to have done another check before the game resumed. That would have been the best thing for the referee,” said Fröhlich dpa.
Bayern played a few seconds with 12 men in the 4-1 win at SC Freiburg because the wrong shirt number was displayed when Kingsley Coman was being substituted and the Frenchman didn’t feel addressed.
According to Fröhlich, the incident could have been avoided. “It was very complex,” said the referee boss, who could understand a certain confusion. “But complexity or not: It’s not nice that people talk about it at the end of a football game,” stressed Fröhlich.
The referee boss announced talks with those involved: “It has something to do with concentration and overview. We have to talk to the referees about this again internally.”
It is still unclear what consequences the change error has for the game rating. SC Freiburg has until Monday to lodge a protest.
