FC Bayern gives Rudi Völler a riddle

FC Bayern are miles away from their long-standing championship form and are also a mystery to Rudi Völler in this condition. “We had a long discussion,” reported the DFB director sports1-One-two about his visit to the stadium with national coach Hansi Flick in Munich’s top game against RB Leipzig (1: 3), “that was not to be expected and is difficult to explain.”

Nevertheless, Völler considered consequences in the executive floor to be wrong. CEO Oliver Kahn, who is said to be on the verge of being eliminated, is “a fighter who will certainly roll up his sleeves and want to show that Bayern Munich is the absolute top club. He deserves the chance.”

The squad “is good, without a doubt,” said Völler, and “the first half hour was great, as you know Bayern”. In the second half, however, it was “as if torn off”: “The belief was missing that the game could still be turned around.”

However, Völler has no doubts about leading players like Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka. “They’ve shown in the last few years that they can do it. Why should they have forgotten it?” It would be “not correct to say that Joshua Kimmich is for the whole season. I do think that Joshua is a leader.”

Former Munich captain Stefan Effenberg disagreed. FC Bayern paints an image “like you’ve never seen in the last 10 years: rather without a leader on the pitch, not with the heart, not that ‘mia san mia’, and not with the fitness you have have to do to become champion”.
